The vineyards of the Jura region represent a tiny part of French vineyard surface area with less than 2,000 hectares of vines. There are 200 wineries that produce mainly white wines. Jura wines are classified in 6 Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée: Arbois, Chateau-Chalon, L'Etoile, Côtes du Jura, Jura Macvin and Crémant du Jura. Grape varieties used for red wine are Poulsard, Trousseau, Pinot Noir, and for white wine there are Savagnin and Chardonnay.
