The vineyards of the Loire Valley represent more than 8% of the French vineyard surface area, i.e. 70,000 hectares of vines. The Loire vineyards have 52 Appellations dOrigine Controlée (AOC) and 8 Protected Geographical Indications (IGP). There are 7,000 winegrowers, 1,000 trading houses and 24 cooperatives in this wine region.
