There are 9 distilleries in Martinique, producing mainly agricultural rum, which means the rum made from fermented sugarcane juice. Since 1996, INAO established the Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée "AOC Martinique" that defines three big families of Rum: Rhum blanc agricole, Rhum ambré agricole and Rhum vieux agricole.
