In Normandy, there are three types of alcohol within the Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée: Cider, Calvados and Pommeau.Cider comes from the natural fermentation of apple juice, Calvados comes from the distillation of cider or poiré, and the Pommeau is obtained by mixing apple juice with Calvados. Since 1984, there are three Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée in Calvados: Calvados, Calvados Pays d'Auge Calvados Domfrontais.
