Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau

Franz Chagnoleau and his spouse Caroline Gon both learned their craft in southern Burgundy, when handling the vinification for respectively Domaine Merlin and the heirs of Comte Lafon. These two experiences gave the couple a taste for Biodynamic principles, and the work of the soils. They had to gather seven hectares of vineyards, to create their own Estate in Pierreclos. They immediately put in place a plethora of cultural practices that contribute to the elaboration of living wines: ploughing, herbal teas, uses of indigenous yeasts... Very rapidly, the tasting proves the talent of the two winemakers. Among the many plots on the Estate, we prefer the Saint Véran "A La Côte", issued from a shallow clay-limestone soil rich in iron oxide. The slope is steep, exposed to the south, and the grapes harvested just ripe are vinified with care. They ultimately benefit from a careful but discreet breeding For anyone nostalgic of great Burgundy wines at affordable prices, this is a must-know estate.
