Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau

Franz Chagnoleau and his spouse Caroline Gon both learned their craft in southern Burgundy, when handling the vinifications for respectively Domaine Merlin and heritiers du Comte Lafon. These two experiences gave the couple a taste for Biodynamic principles, and the xork of soils. They will gather seven hectares of vineyards, before to create their own Estate in Pierreclos. They establish immediately a bunch of cultural practices, that participate in the elaboration of living wines: work of the soils, tisanes, uses of indegenious yiests... Very quickly, the tasting proves the talent of both winegrowers. Among the many single vineyards of the Estate, we prefer the Saint Véran "A La Côte", from a clay-limestone terroir, rich in iron oxides and not very deep. The slope is steep, exposed to the south, and the grapes harvested just ripe are vinified with care. They go through a meticulous ageing, present but discreet. This is a must-know estate, by anyone nostalgic of great Burgundy wines, yet still accessible...
