The producer

Domaine Didier Dagueneau

A name echoes from the top of the great winegrowers's mountain: that of Didier Dagueneau. An artist with a passion for vines, and a former pupil of another legend named Henri Jayer, his work endures in the heart and minds of wine connoisseurs. His passing is september 2008 provided his children Louis-Benjamin and Charlotte with quite a heavy torch to carry. But they write on with determination the great story of the Estate. The work as envisionned by Didier Dagueneau still endures: a single vineyard approach, harvest only when optimum maturities are achieved, ageing on lees within barrels without any transfer. The wines remain examples of purity, a cristal-like and transparent expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Among the seven wines of Louis-Benjamin, we need to first explain "Sillex". Located at the top of the "Saint-Andelain" hill, on soils of flintstone and clay, this slot grows a sauvignon of great character, with magistral balance. It needs to be waited a minimum of four years, and opened at its peak after a ten years nap in the cellar. The Pur Sang Cuvée originates in a 2 hectares slot, located in the area of La Folie. The earth is made from light clay, and the grapes render a broader, richer style of wine, with a profound salinity. Lastly, the Estate proposes a Sancerre, an offspring of the finest soils of the region: the sun-drenched and stony hill of Le Mont Damné.
