Distillerie G. Miclo

Domain presentation

Distillerie G. Miclo

Fruit trees have always been common in eastern France, which explains the presence of many distilleries there. In the Alsacian village of Lapoutroie, the Miclo family has long been renowned for producing spirits of great finesse. Gilbert Miclo started to distill in 1962, but the "SA Distillery G.Miclo" was founded a bit later, in 1970. The installations themselves date back to 1976, when no less than 4 alembics and 30 fermentation and ageing vats were installed. A rigorous selection of fruits, resulting in powerful flavors, and a talented craftsmanship quickly brought to the distillery its notoriety. Over time, Gilbert's four children joined forces with their father, and it is now his grandson Bertrand who runs the activity. In 2011, the Miclo Distillery invested its deep experience in spirits into the making of a range of whiskies: first, the malt is carefully selected and distilled twice to achieve greater purity. Only small barrels originating from the finest French wine estates are used for fermenting or ageing, and clear water comes from a source located at an altitude of 950 meters, above the village, near the Devin lake. The Miclo Welche's Whisky Single Malt presents a nose with notes of fresh bread, brioche and almonds, and the palate evolves towards aromas of coffee, figs and honey. The finish is particularly greedy, rich and tonic. The Miclo Welche's Whisky Single Malt, Peated (30ppm) presents typical ash or firewood like aromas, and a palate with caramel, honey, nougat. This whisky showcases true character, both very balanced and rich.
