Champagne La Closerie

North-West of the mountain of Reims, in Gueux, Jérôme Prévost took over a few of his Grandmother's vines. His first harvest took place in 1987. With a great sensitivity to vegetal, the man elaborates a wine as if it were from a garden. Les Béguines is a pinot meunier, from massal selection, and belongs today to the finest sparking cuvées. The soils are diverse, all managed with respect and love for the living. Very early, the winegrower banished any use of pesticides and herbicides between the ranks, and got passionate about the phenomenon of mycorhization. Two hectares harvested in the best years will have to suffice for the whole world. Without exuberance nor austerity, the nose opens clearly, with aromas of sage, verbena and noble vegetal, contrasting with a very greedy and rich palate. This simplicity of full ripeness and healthy grapes is quite moving, since it is rarely to be found in Champagne, The tanins give structure to the wine, rendering a phenomenal texture. One would kill for Fac Simile 2016, the blend rosé, where the meunier from les Béguines accounts for the majority of the base wine. Fresh rose melts with the sanguine sour notes, and what length!
