The producer

Clos du Rouge Gorge

Cyril Fahl is a rather modest and simple winegrower, but he still is a prime figure in Latour de France, a village located between the Corbières Moutains and Spain. That being said, the winegrower's reputation reaches far beyond the borders of France and Navarre! Since his first vintage in 2002, he showed that the sunnier regions can also produce fresh wines, and in both colours please! It all starts in the vines, with a gigantic work of the soils on the entirety of the Estate. (six hectares). Opened and nurtured with natural preparations, the slots shelter century-old vines. They produce miscroscopic yields, barely above 20hl/ha, but this juice is nectar for the gods, with delicate concentration. Once taken in the cellars, a perfectly sane harvest will start fermenting, under the action of the autogeneous lees. More often than not, the vat will finish its fermentation without any addition of sulphites at all. In order to understand Cyril's idea of a grenache, let us taste his cuvée "Jeunes Vignes". It prooves that no matter how old a vine can be, it is still able to produce grapes with concentration, and profound wines. The wine is young indeed, vibrant, but never lacks complexity nor length. It offers fruitiness, clarity and a lot of well-being at the tasting. The cuvée "Vieilles Vignes" has a spot among the top-three Carignans from France. This wine will need to sleep ideally five years in the cellar, before to express itself fully. In the glass, the texture is supple and smooth, with again this clarity so moving, that characterizes the wines of this estate. It can be paired with stewed meats.
