Domaine Marcel Richaud
Marcel Richaud took over the family estate in Cairanne in 1974.
Naturally, the winemaker gets involved in the work of the vine before investing in a new winery. As elsewhere, such as in Châteauneuf du Pape or Gigondas, the challenge is to fight global warming and southern maturities, which are becoming increasingly fierce each year.
Marcel Richaud was then aware of the importance of the farming practices to be implemented at the Domaine, such as mechanical weeding, the use of products derived from organic farming or the drastic sorting of the berries during the harvest. This commitment will push him to work for the elaboration of the specifications of the appellation Cairanne, relying in particular on the moderate use of sulfur and the limitation of motorized vehicles in the vines.
Finally, it is absolutely necessary for the winemaker to enhance the grape varieties such as the ‘mourvèdre’, the ‘counoise’ or the ‘carignan’, more resistant to cryptogamic diseases.
The Ebrescade sheds light on the gracefulness of the Mourvèdre. The grapes come from the old vines of the Domaine, which have penetrated alluvial soils for more than 50 years.
The wine has a supple tannin grain that marries a voluptuous and fragrant matter.
In the mouth, the whole gives the impression of biting with full teeth in a fleshy and pulpy fruit without the mouth ever getting tired.
