The producer

Domaine Michel Bouzereau et fils

The Estate embodies the fresh wind of change that has been blowing on Meursault. Jean-Baptiste takes over the family vineyard in 1999, and inherits the 10,5 hectares left by his father. The winegrower tries to give a faithful rendition of the vintage, and of the different "climats" composing the Estate (among which the prestigious Charmes and Perrières). Jean-Baptiste works his vines, but does little cooking with his wines. The grapes are carefully harvested, by hand, in small cases, and every step if the winemaking is carried out with great care, with sulphites being used in very controlled proportions. The ageings vary between 12 and 18 months in oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood never exceeding 30%. Therefore, the wines of the Estate never shine with smoked aromatics, that Meursault often gets associated with (they are generally caused by ageings, or by work on the lees), but rather by great purity. Each terroir is clearly defined. "Tessons" is always cristal-like and long, "Charmes" is rather sappy, deep and opulent. The fabulous first growth "Les Perrières" (that originates in a poor soil, very stony) is monument of structure and balance. We place it with no hesitation onto the podium of other wines from the same Cru.
