Domaine Clape
The history of Domaine Auguste Clape is ancestral and embodies the rise of the Cornas appellation. In 1955 the family decides to organize a wine market and start bottling their production at the family estate. Soon enough, this little 4-hectare Domaine catches the attention of amateurs, even in England, and the couple bottles produced are extremely sought-after.
Pierre, son of Antoinette and Auguste Clape, takes over the Domaine in 1988 after learning the ropes at Domaine Tempier and Vieux Télégraphe. Syrah, still unknown to him, will become his raw material and best ally in this venture. Absolute legend in town, Domaine Clape is the best example of a classic Cornas, with its very dense wines designed to be kept in the cellar. The wine, whole-bunch fermented, possesses enough flesh and structure to integrate the ambitious maturation of the Domaine. Wines that shall reward with greater emotions, those patient enough to wait.
