Domaine Alain Voge

The Voge Estate finds himself at the forefront of the renewal of the Cornas and Saint Peray Appellations. Lesser known than their neighbours Côte Rôtie and other labels from northern Rhône, these Appellations too often merely appear like their satellites. To taste the wines of Domaine Alain Voge creates an opportunity to gauge the immense potential of this unique terroir, from the Rhône valley. Before the winegrower joined the family Estate in 1962, the wines were still sent to the cooperative, and the work in the vineyard was not the primary job of the parents. They instead produced several crops of different kinds, on the Estate. From this time, Alain Voge kept the intimate conviction that no culture can be developped without biodiversity. The trees are still many across the Estate, and vegetable plants grow between the vine ranks. The chalky sidehills left aside have been carefully planted with new vines, and an important work of the soils was started, until he received the biodynamic certification in 2013. Among the different wines made at the Estate, let us cite three wines with unique profiles, three bottles for the enjoyment of curious connoisseurs. For the white wines, the Saint Peray "Fleur de Crussol" is a pure 100% Marsanne, from vines that are more than seventy years old. The exposition of the slot to the sun favours a particularly generous maturation, and a long ageing on the lees helps bring complexity to the wine. In red, Les Chailles is a great start for who wants to discover a Cornas in its youth. the wine is open, the fruit is intact and greedy, with a hint of pepper. It is the ideal companion for a barbecued beef rib. The Cornas Vieilles Vignes is made with 100% Syrah, from a single vineyard, planted on very old and decomposed chalky soils (called "Gore"). It is the perfect expression of a Syrah with often tight tannins in their youths. It will need ten years to deploy its full potential, and its full elegance.
