The producer

Domaine Bonnefond

The two Bonnefond brothers, Patrick and Christophe, took charge of the family Domaine in the early 90’s. They inherit of a fine vineyard among the best terroirs of Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu. While their father used to sell his harvest to local wine merchants such as Jaboulet, the two brothers decide to make their own wine: rich, well-rounded, emphasized by a maturation that will require a couple years of patience in the cellar. The viognier is planted on granitic soils whereas the syrah is more located on the Côte Brune, soils made of schist. The parcel “Côte Rozier” at the north of the appellation, benefits from protection against the wind and a relative late harvest thanks to its south, south-east exposure. Aged for 2 years in new oak the wine seems stern and wild in its youth but time in the cellar will help soften it. The great parcel “Les Rochains”, also on shist soils, is located right next to the legendary “La Landonne”, and has a south, south-west exposure. The grapes there always seem more concentrated and the wine certainly possesses an infinite aging potential. The wines from Domaine Bonnefond will delight patient amateurs of sapid and graphite syrah.
