Domaine du Collier

The 7,5 hectares that compose Domaine du Collier embody Saumur's greatness, a radiant jewel in Anjou blanc. Antoine Foucault, (son of Charly Foucault, winegrower at the famous Clos Rougeard) set up the Estate in 1999 in Chacé, with the help of his wife Caroline. Antoine ages and sublimates his wines in his impressive troglodytic cellar, looking across at the Brézé hillsides. The vines of chenin and cabernet franc dig their minerality from the tuffeau chalk's structure. The plot "Charpentrie" boasts the oldest vines of the Estate, giving its name to the Estate's two great wines. The first is a saline and yet massive expression of chenin blanc, and the second is a floral and powdered rendition of cabernet franc, that will defy ages. long ageings in oak barrels, up to three years, have been more precise the last few vintages, and the wines appear even more digest, without losing their vibrancy at all. You have now understoof the legendary status of these wines, that should be enjoyed once in a lifetime!
