The producer

Domaine des Closiers

The (brand new) Domaine des Closiers is located in Parnay in the heart of Saumur-Champigny. This little gem of an estate is made up of 15 hectares of thirtyish years old vines and should be monitored very closely. Many well-known faces from the Loire valley wine landscape are indeed involved in this project. Michel Chevré (Clos de l’Ecotard) namely, is in charge of the biological conversion and vinification and Nady Foucault (former Clos Rougeard) the ageing of the wines. This gathering of talents has no other objective than producing a wine of the purest Saumur limestone expression. The soils are worked with care and without oenological crutch (except for a microscopic touch of sulphur). In the cellar, the grape is handled gently and with precision thanks to a state of the art winemaking equipment: horizontal pneumatic press, sorting table, Oscillys destemmer, thermo-regulated tanks… The harvest, cold soaked, is pure and intact with an incredible silky tactile sensation. The cuvee Les Coudraies is a fruit bomb entirely aged in stainless steel tanks however, the next vintages will be exposed to oak (Dussiaux barrels from… Clos Rougeard, rings any bell?) . We’ve warned you, Domaine des Closiers should be followed closely!
