Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard is one of the most respected producers in the Côte de Beaune, located in Chassagne-Montrachet. The estate's strength comes from its exceptional winemaking heritage and a philosophy that prioritizes the authentic expression of each plot. Founded in 1985 by Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard, the estate is the result of the union of two winemaking families. It was created by bringing together vines from the Gagnard family, drawing on an inheritance of "several centuries." The new generation, Céline and her husband Frédéric, are continuing this approach, which favors respect for family values and harmony with nature. Although tradition is at the heart of the estate's philosophy, adjustments are being made to enhance quality, such as the cellar extension project for extended aging of the white wines. Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard covers 12 hectares, the majority of which is dedicated to white wines. The estate's land holdings are of rare richness, covering the three emblematic Grands Crus of Chassagne-Montrachet: Le Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. The estate also owns vines in ten different Premiers Crus of Chassagne-Montrachet. Among them are vineyards like La Romanée, Les Caillerets, Morgeot, Les Vergers, and the monopole Clos des Murées. The estate also cultivates a cuvée of remarkable Pinot Noir on the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. The production philosophy is based on rigor, with the goal of producing the highest quality grapes possible to obtain wines of great purity. Winemaking follows classic methods: fermentations are done with "indigenous yeasts" and the wines are aged for 12 to 18 months in oak barrels. The percentage of new barrels is variable, adjusted to suit the appellation level: 15 to 20% for Village cuvées and 30 to 40% for Premiers and Grands Crus. This uniform approach allows each wine to faithfully reflect its terroir of origin. Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard's wines are recognized for their intensity, depth, and complexity. They are described as wines that, while accessible in their youth, always express their terroir with great precision and have the structure to age well. Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard embodies Burgundian excellence by combining a deep family heritage with precise technical mastery to enhance exceptional terroirs.
