The producer

Domaine Leflaive

A passionate sailor, Anne-Claude Leflaive dreamed of living in Brazil, before finally settling in Burgundy and the family Estate. In 1982, at the age of 26, she became a part-time winemaker. Full of hope, her ecological convictions encouraged her to meet Claude Bourguignon, then already established as a consultant in biodynamics. The man taught her a few key concepts, which certainly contributed in her becoming a true pioneer in this philosophy. Still today, it takes courage to dare stray from traditional winegrowing practices in a region as precious as the Côte-d’Or. The property can turn a few heads! Almost 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet, among which the famous Pucelles and Clavoillon, without forgetting the Grands Crus, and the Montrachet to finish with (0,08 ha). Chemical fertilizers have been proscribed, and the entire Estate was converted to organic viticulture as early as 1992. The benefits of this philosophy (microbial activity, resistance to oïdium and other diseases, yield control, quality of the grapes…) were pivotal in convincing the winegrower, who never looked back. Anne-Claude passed away in 2015, but the magic remains. The Estate embodies the identity of Puligny-Montrachet: mineral and delicate chardonnays, with tertiary notes of rosewood. The wines appear often straighter than the neighbouring Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault.
