The producer

Domaine Valentin Zusslin

Brother and Sister duo Jean-Paul and Marie Zusslin are passionate about pursuing the development of their family estate located in Orchwihr, South of Colmar Today the property covers 16 hectares of hillside composed of very diverse subsoils, spread between several Grands Crus, including Clos Liebenberg and Pfingstberg. Since 1997 the vines have all been cultivated through bio dynamic methods and thrive amongst the indigenous flora. No chemicals have permeated the soils since that date, and the energy felt amongst the wines highlights a soil that is worked with a profound respect for the living. Throughout a glass of Bollenberg Pinot Gris one discovers the boldness of its terroir (clay and limestone that are very rich in iron). The wine is full-bodied with long finishing notes tinged with citrus fruits. We were particularly charmed by Clos Liebenberg’s Riesling. Clos Liedenberg (the hill of love) covers 3.5 hectare and is the monopoly of the Domain. This unique south-east facing site is completely enclosed by hedges and stone walls. This creates a unique microcosm with a rich biodiversity. Upon tasting, the wine releases a powerful bouquet of gingerbread, honey and candied mango. The mouth is clean, vibrant and invites the taster to come back for more. A truly great gastronomic wine !
