Domaine Xubialdea

Perched on the mountainside, the Basque Country is home to one of the smallest wine appellations in France: Irouléguy. In the village of Lasse, one must then imagine picture the scattered vineyards of Battit Ybargaray, winegrower of Domaine Xubialdea. Whilst operating an organic farm, in 2008 Mr. Ybargaray planted a single hectare of vines on black schists called ampelites. Here, Petit and Gros Mansengs blossom to produce a unique microscopic cuvée, produced in microscopic quantities (3000 bottles only). Ardan Harri is a gem, a formidable rendering of what the region can offer when its soils are worked with respect for living things. Once opened, everything is in tune, from the generous ripeness of its healthy grape, to the crystalline tension that provides perfect balance. We are particularly fond of this small estate which contributes to the dynamism of the appellation.
