The producer

Marie et Vincent Tricot

Marie and Vincent Tricot are winemakers in the Côtes d’Auvergne, located in Orcet, a village 12 km southeast of Clermont-Ferrand. Adjacent to Gergovie, Orcet is a village situated on a plateau whose slopes are planted with vines. Due to an inverted relief phenomenon, the clay-limestone soils there are covered with volcanic pebbles. In 2003, the couple acquired an approximately 5-hectare estate, which had been organic since 1971, with vines planted by massal selection. Organic farming is central to the winemakers' approach. They favor natural grass cover in the vineyards and limited treatments (plant decoctions and Bordeaux mixture). The soils are worked with a crawler tractor. The cultivated grape varieties include Gamay d'Auvergne, an indigenous variety that ripens later and has looser clusters than Beaujolais Gamay. Wines from this grape possess a delicate acidity and a spicier character. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the other grape varieties cultivated by the couple. Vincent Tricot uses very little sulfur in winemaking and has managed to eliminate it entirely since 2011. Red wines are often vinified with whole clusters. The couple aims to produce fine, light wines that reflect their terroir, to be drunk young, prioritizing enjoyment. Since 2007, facing inconsistencies with AOC approval, the estate has favored the Vin de France appellation for all its cuvées. The estate's cuvées include: 3 Bonhommes, a delicate and gourmet Pinot Noir aged in vats. Les Milans, a juicy and fluid blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir. Le Petit Rouge de la Côte Ouest, made from 100% Gamay d'Auvergne, yields a fleshy wine that intensely expresses its volcanic terroir. Escargot, a supple and gourmet Chardonnay white wine, ideal as an aperitif.
