The producer

Château Marquis d'Alesme

Château Marquis d'Alesme, classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) of the Médoc in 1855, is an emblematic Margaux property that has belonged to the Perrodo family since 2006. Under the direction of Nathalie Perrodo, the estate has benefited from investments to renovate the cellars (chais) as well as the château buildings. Since 2010, leveraging the expertise and advice of Michel Rolland's laboratory, the property has seen a qualitative revival. The vineyard spans 14 hectares with a high planting density of 10,000 vines per hectare and an average vine age of 40 years. The estate is managed using a precision viticulture approach, taking advantage of its three plots with complex soils (sandy-gravelly, clay, sandy-marl). The grape varieties are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), complemented by Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (5%), and Cabernet Franc (2%). The cellar allows for ultra-selective plot-by-plot vinification thanks to a diverse vat room (80 hl wooden truncated vats, stainless steel, and concrete). The maturation protocol is sophisticated: malolactic fermentation is performed in barrels, and the wine is aged on its fine lees for the first three months. Aging lasts an average of 18 months and uses approximately 50% new wood, with the work on fine lees allowing for better integration of the oak notes into the texture. The final blend of the Grand Vin, though dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, is the result of a drastic selection, where only the richest lots are retained. Elegant, fine, and often revealing floral and black fruit aromas on the nose, the wines of Marquis d'Alesme offer great richness (gourmandise) with juicy notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and blueberry enhanced by a fine minerality.
