Château Clinet

Nestled in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, Château Clinet is an emblematic wine estate showcasing some of the finest terroirs in the Libournais region. Its history dates back to the 17th century, but it's in recent decades that it has truly risen to rank among the greatest wines of the region. The Clinet vineyard spans terroirs predominantly composed of deep clays, ideal for the flourishing of Merlot (75% of the grape varietals). However, there are also veins of gravel perfectly suited for Cabernet Sauvignon (25% of the surface area). These latter varieties contribute structure and freshness to the wines. Vineyard management is conducted with great respect for the environment, promoting biodiversity and soil health, which are key elements for optimal terroir expression. After rigorous sorting of the grape bunches, the berries are typically destemmed before being put into vats. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in tanks, often stainless steel or concrete, at controlled temperatures for a gradual extraction of aromas and tannins. Regular pump-overs and punch-downs are performed to encourage contact between the must and the grape skins. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wines undergo malolactic fermentation, which can occur in tanks or directly in barrels. The percentage of new wood varies between 60% and 80% depending on the vintage. Aging lasts between 16 and 18 months. This process refines the wine's tannic structure, integrates woody aromas, and promotes its complexity. Château Clinet wines are renowned for their elegance, concentration, and excellent aging potential. They offer intense aromas of dark fruits and violet, with spicy and truffled notes that develop admirably over time. On the palate, they are distinguished by their silky texture, fine tannins, and a long, persistent finish. Each vintage reflects the unique expression of its terroir, while maintaining the château's inimitable signature. Under the impetus of the Laborde family, owners since 1998, Château Clinet continues to establish itself as a benchmark in Pomerol.
