The producer

Château de Millery

Château de Millery has been owned by the Manoncourt family since 1942. As an anecdote, while her son Thierry was a prisoner in Germany, his mother acquired a plot located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion with his prisoner of war pay. As the family explains, "it was an act of faith in the future." Upon his return to civilian life, Thierry Manoncourt recognized the potential of this terroir and made it his "secret garden," cultivating it with as much attention as Château Figeac, the family's true jewel. Devoted to every detail, he personally designed the label for Château de Millery, a simple and elegant design that remains the emblem of this vineyard even today. Château Millery is now managed by his daughter, Blandine de Brier Manoncourt. Located in Saint Christophe des Bardes, this highly confidential vineyard (it covers only 0.8 ha) is planted on clay-limestone soil with a northwest exposure and is 100% Merlot. Viticultural practices are similar to those implemented at Château Figeac: a very reasoned cultivation, without chemical weeding, and including bio-control products. This Saint-Emilion Grand Cru reveals a delightful aromatic palette (focused on Ente plum and blackberry), reflecting the beauty of Merlot on clay-limestone soils. With time, its generous profile refines and reveals a hint of saline minerality on the finish.
