The producer

Château La Tour de Mons

Château La Tour de Mons, a wine estate in the Margaux appellation, benefits from a remarkable terroir located in Soussans, near the Gironde estuary. Its soil is characterized by Garonne gravel and clay-limestone. The fortified house of La Tour de Mons, built in the 13th century, has had many owners, including Pierre de Mons, who was also lord of the Labégorce terroir. His descendants succeeded him at the head of La Tour de Mons until the end of the 19th century. In 2020, Château Tour de Mons was sold by CA Grands Crus to the Perrodo family, who are already owners in Margaux of Châteaux Labégorce and Marquis d’Alesme. The estate spans a contiguous area of 58 hectares. Its vineyard, with an average age of 32 years, is planted with 61% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. The planting density is 8,500 vines per hectare. The estate practices sustainable agriculture (HVE 3 label). Grapes are harvested manually, and a rigorous sorting is performed in the vat room. Vinification takes place in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, followed by a three-week maceration and malolactic fermentation in vats. Aging lasts 12 months in French oak barrels. Château La Tour de Mons is often cited for its excellent quality-to-price ratio in the Margaux appellation. The wine of Château La Tour de Mons is known for its complex aromatic profile, combining notes of red and black fruits, spices, and toasted nuances. On the palate, it offers a remarkable balance between elegance and power, with a tight and savory tannic structure. The wine improves over about ten years of bottle aging.
