Sébastien Mouzon Leroux

The Mouzon-Leroux estate, established in 1776 in Verzy and taken over by Sébastien Mouzon in 2002, comprises approximately 10 hectares of vines in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. A proponent of biodynamic methods since 2011, Sébastien Mouzon is also a pioneer of agroforestry. He has planted five hundred shrubs among his vines to promote their biodiversity. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in used barrels, his still wines are aged for 9 to 24 months before "champagnisation" (secondary fermentation in the bottle). Aging on lees in the bottle continues for up to five years, followed by a six-month rest after disgorgement. The L'Atavique cuvée, non-dosé (brut nature), is made from 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay. Its sharp and mineral (chalky) character makes it a true Verzy Grand Cru. The L'Angélique cuvée, very lightly dosed like all this winemaker's Champagnes, is a vintage wine composed of 100% Chardonnay. L'Ascendant is made from a perpetual blend or "solera" (started in 2010) obtained from the same vines (60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay) as the L'Atavique cuvée. L'Ineffable is a Blanc de Noirs Champagne, 100% Pinot Noir and vintage. Les Fervins is a vintage cuvée featuring all the grape varieties authorized in the Champagne appellation, namely Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir.
