Domaine Blard & Fils

Thomas Blard represents the fifth generation of the 10-hectare family Domaine located in the town of Les Marches in Savoie. The winemaker is clearly part of the resurgence of a rather little-known wine region. Here, the altesse (roussette), jacquère and mondeuse are vinified separately as to pay a tribute to these fabulous native grape varieties. The clay-limestone and clay-with-flint soils give a lot of depth and persistence to the wines. With Thomas’ arrival the work in the vineyard leans towards a progressive limitation of synthetic products and a halt to mechanisation. Although the wines are unoaked, they are left a year to age on lees. Among the different cuvées, the Brut Alpin is a cracking sparkling wine alternative to champagne. The blend of ripe chardonnay and jacquère make quite the pair and the (undosed) wine calls for a large matured cheese platter.
