Domaine Bruno Clair

The Clair sirname has a particular resonance in Marsannay. Bruno Clair founded his estate when he inherited some vines in his village, in 1979. The vineyard is now a top burgundy estate, and the sole evocation of its name brings fond memories to the Gevrey wine lovers. As a matter of fact, Bruno Clair has gathered a library of plots, each more promising than the other, like the magnificent Clos Saint Jacques or the mythical Grand Cru Clos de Bèze. To finish this fun picture, the estate took over one hectare of Bonnes Mares, in Morey Saint Denis. However, whether it be the 1er Cru Les Longeroies in Marsannay, or the Grands Crus, we will prefer to let the wines open and deploy themselves gracefully. If further convincing was needed, we could just focus on a tasting of the two legends of the estate. The Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Cazetiers originates in particularly steep hillsides, located on the Côte Saint Jacques. Muscular, but never too rustic, dense, almost wild, this first growth gets quieter with age, and its bunch of spices (pepper and cinnamon) can be detected after a few years. The Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Le Clos Saint Jacques is a treasure, comparable by its complexity with the amoureuses in Chambolle-Musigny. Located at the bottom of Combe Lavaux, and exposed facing east, the vines undergo different temperature levels. They give birth to a wine with supernatural broadth, which often shows a near perfect balance. The Bruno Clair estate therefore likes to reward the amateurs for their patience.
