Domaine de l'Aurage

In 2006, wine experts Caroline and Louis Mitjavile took over Château de Cadet, later renaming it Domaine de l'Aurage. This rare acquisition of 19 hectares is located in the Castillon terroir. The Domaine de l'Aurage is an addition to the couple’s wine estate, who also run Château Tertre Roteboeuf in Saint Emilion and Roc de Cambes in Bourg. They were mainly drawn to this new project due to its quality vineyard: healthy preserved vines densely planted (6000 ft/ha) on a clay-limestone soil. Merlot represents most of the planted surface area along with 15% of Cabernet franc. They still had to invest in a few projects as they took over, like renovating the wine cellar. Just like in Tertre, the Domaine de l'Aurage offers just a single batch per vintage. The grapes are carefully hand-picked, destemmed, and put to macerate for four weeks before maturing in new Daroux casks for almost two years. Regardless of the year's outcome, the Domaine de l'Aurage wine always reveals that intensity, peculiar to the best wines of the right bank.
