Domaine de la Touraize

The Domaine de la Touraize is located in Arbois, in the Jura region. There, 10 hectares of vineyard are currently managed by the eighth generation of winegrowers. The Estate is divided in nine single-plots, all ran using organic and biodynamic viticulture principles. The varied soils reflect the diversity inherited from the Jurassic era: blue marl, calcareous-clay, silty-clay marls, and rich gravel on marl. At the end of winter, these soils are enriched in organic material, mostly to prevent a lack of nitrogen in the grapes. Decoctions and natural herb teas are used as treatments for the vines, but also copper, and sometimes sulphur. No chemical weed killer is ever used, the plant is respected throughout its entire growth cycle. At the cellar, the grapes undergo fermentation with natural yeasts, and there are few interventions: the wine is simply made and aged on lees. To grasp the philosophy of Domaine de la Touraize, you need to taste the cuvée « les Moulins »: a fun blend of savagnin and chardonnay, aged eighteen months on lees in oak barrels. The wine is seductive with its floral nose, and expressive mouthfeel, highlighting the Estate’s most sincere intentions.
