Domaine Eric Morgat
Eric Morgat's parents were winegrowers in the Layon, but his own Chenin took him to Savennières. He settled there twenty years ago and now owns sux hectares of vineyards, among which several acres of the famous slot Roche aux Moines.
Here the vines are in direct relation to the climate, rendering their full expression in the glass, demonstrating the clear typicity of the schist terroir.
In the vineyard, the man is full of common sense: no great wine without a sane harvest, impossible to let any grape with noble rot through.
At the cellar, he uses a soft and not too long pressuring, in order to extract only the best. Not a fan of chenin worked in oxydo-reduction, Eric Morgat prefers the micro-oxygenation of the musts, and the ageing under oak, in order to bottle only perfectly clear and cristal-like juices. The Fidès cuvée, a blend of four slots in Savennières, is an athlete with a soft, salin touch. This wine will age greatly!
