Domaine Rostaing

Domaine Rostaing, located in Ampuis, in the heart of the Northern Rhône Valley, is an emblematic producer in the Côte-Rôtie appellation, renowned for the elegance and purity of its wines. Founded by René Rostaing and now managed by his son Pierre, the domain, spanning around 10 hectares, cultivates Syrah on steep, schist slopes. It adheres to sustainable farming methods and prioritizes low yields. The winemaking process is conducted with great respect for the fruit : the aging period lasts approximately 22 months in barrels and demi-muids (large casks), with the use of new oak strictly limited (a maximum of 5 % to 10 %). This approach ensures that the terroir, and not the wood, is fully expressed. Domaine Rostaing offers a trilogy of major Côte-Rôtie cuvées, each narrating a distinct terroir story: Côte-Rôtie La Landonne: Sourced from the famous "Côte Brune" (Brown Slope), La Landonne is the most structured wine of the domain. It comes from ferrous schist soils and is made almost exclusively from Syrah (from 2 hectares of vines). Its aromatic profile is marked by deep dark fruits (cassis, blackberry), black olive, and mocha. With ample tannins, this cuvée is built for very long aging, requiring patience to reach its full maturity. Côte-Rôtie Côte Blonde : The Côte Blonde is La Landonne’s antithesis in profile, embodying finesse and charm. Its micaschist and silica soils (from 1 hectare of vines) lend it a supple and velvety texture. The wine is made via traditional co-fermentation with a touch of Viognier (up to 5 %), which brings delicate floral notes of violet and peony, along with nuances of cinnamon. While more accessible in its youth, this cuvée nonetheless possesses tremendous aging potential. Côte-Rôtie Ampodium: The Ampodium is the domain's most accessible and emblematic cuvée, resulting from a complex blend of Syrah sourced from thirteen different lieux-dits (around 4 hectares in total, including parcels of La Landonne and Côte Blonde, as well as Viallière and Côte-Rozier terroirs). This blend provides a remarkable complexity. Its balance makes it a world-class wine with excellent aging potential of 10 to 15 years. The range is further enriched by a parcel of Condrieu, La Bonnette (1.20 hectares), which yields a subtly taut white wine aged in barrels, grown on granite and mica-schist soils. Les Lézardes is an IGP Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah that benefits from the same care as the Ampodium cuvée. It is produced from several parcels (located in the vicinity of Côte-Rôtie) and aged in oak foudres (large capacity wooden vats).
