Domaine Uchida
Osamu Uchida vinified his first vintage in 2015. In this vintage, he produced a single cuvée from Cabernet Sauvignon in the Haut-Médoc appellation, called Le Miracle. The story of this Medoc micro-domain is nothing short of miraculous.
Born in Hiroshima, Japan, Osamu developed a passion for French culture and language at an early age. In 1999, during a trip to Gironde, he fell under the spell of the Médoc's wine culture and hospitality. Entrecôte à la bordelaise and game dishes remain among his fondest memories. In 2005, he toured wine-producing France, visiting three hundred estates in the space of a year, and taking part in several internships with winemakers. He returned in 2010 with the ambition of setting up his own business.
Osamu financed his installation by becoming a tour guide for the Bordeaux Wine Trade Bureau. Since then, he has organized numerous tastings for Japanese customers. By taking part in the Médoc marathon, Osamu has become part of the Médoc landscape.
He rents small plots of vines in Cissac-Médoc near Pauillac. These woodland vineyards have real potential, provided they are carefully cultivated and harvested at the right time. Alongside his wife Rie, Osamu Uchida now cultivates 2.5 ha of organically grown vines, both owned and leased.
Cuvée Le Miracle is aged for one year in 500-l barrels and jars. The style of this wine is the opposite of austere, long-ageing Bordeaux. Harvested at perfect maturity (sometimes in November), the Cabernet Sauvignon takes on a tonic character, vibrant with minerality. The tannins are discreet, making the wine accessible from youth. Cuvée Circus is made from 100% Carménère grapes.
La Vénus is an ambitious, full-bodied, velvety cuvée whose concentration is in keeping with a more traditional, long-ageing Médoc style.
