Clos Thou

Clos Thou

The Clos Thou is located at the heart of the Pyrenean Piemont, the noble cradle of Jurançon wines. The 9 hectare Estate spread across the slopes of Chapelle-de-Rousse, one of the best terroirs in the heart of the Jurançon appellation. Clos Thou has been in the Lapouble-Laplace family for four generations, with Henri currently in charge. The vineyard has been certified organic since 2003, and the unique soils of Poudingues emphasize the energy and tension of the wines. Harvest takes place rather late: the golden berries of Petit and Gros Manseng, Camaralet or Petit Courbu are selected, with great care, from October to December. The grapes withered and dried out by the Foehn (local dry wind) turn into small beads of aromatic concentration. The delice de Thou is a very nice entry-level wine: it is very sapid, multi-facetted despite the heat of the latest vintages. Deeper, the Guilhouret cuvée is a blend made up mostly of gros manseng grapes which ferment naturally in barrels and vats. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 8 months. Finally, the estate offers a sweet wine, the Julie cuvée, made from October’s selection. As charming as it is graceful, the wine seduces with its aromatic power (dried mango, white pepper, vine peach), but also impresses through its mineral structure. Digestible, the acidity of the gros manseng comes to temper the residual sugar. A magical harmony with foie gras or refined Roquefort cheese! »
