Château Hosanna

Nestled in the heart of the Pomerol plateau lies Château Hosanna, a wine estate located close to Vieux-Château Certan and Petrus. This cru, formerly known as Certan Giraud, was integrated into the portfolio of Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1999. The history of Château Hosanna's vineyard dates back to the 16th century. At that time, the cru was part of the Certan estate, owned by the Scottish de May family. Over time, this vineyard was fragmented into three properties : Certan Giraud, de May de Certan, and Vieux Château Certan. Château Certan Giraud, a renowned property by the 1950s, was acquired by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1999. On this occasion, only the highest plots on the Pomerol plateau were retained to form part of the Château Hosanna vineyard. This vineyard spans 4.5 hectares. Its unique terroir, characterized by blue clay and red gravel soils over "crasse de fer" (iron pan), imparts a particular elegance and complexity to this cru. The grape varietal composition, consisting of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, benefits from vines averaging 40 years old, including one planted in 1956. The cultivation follows sustainable practices (HVE 3 certified), with soil work respecting the four traditional methods (earthing up and de-earthing the vines), as well as green work in the vineyard including disbudding and thinning. After rigorous grape selection (refined by optical sorting), fermentation takes place in stainless steel and wooden vats, followed by prolonged maceration, essential for extracting aromas and tannins. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, with a proportion of new wood (around 50%). Château Hosanna wine is distinguished by its richness and complexity, combining elegance and charm. Its aromatic profile is rich in ripe black fruits, chocolate, and floral notes, evolving on the palate into a silky texture with well-integrated tannins.
