Domaine Follin-Arbelet

Franck Follin Arbelet studied geology in Montpelliers, before to return to his native Burgundy in the early nineties. The winegrower inherited beautiful climats around the village of Aloxe-Corton. In total, no fewer than four Grands Crus and as many Premiers Crus that together make his range a truly nice one. The Corton hill, that separates the Côte de Nuits from the Côte de Beaune, is unique in many ways: an elevated altitude, facing east and an abrupt slope, wide open to winds. Facing the impressive terroir, the winegrower remains discreet and measured. The man really mirrors the wines he makes: they need time before to fully express themselves. In respect to his soils, Franck Follin limits as much as possible the chemical intrants, and gets as close as he can to an organic viticulture, but without a certification. At the cellar, the wines are not filtered. With the perpetual care of a continuity in style, the winegrower accompanies the musts, restraining from any unnecessary intervention. It is preferable with this Estate to start the tasting with the reds. Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru "Les Fichots": under the thick layer of clay of this famous climat, the vines take root through the hard chalky soil. The wine is always intense, juicy and sharp. At the center of the village of Aloxe, we find the Clos du Chapitre. A real open book, since this soil delivering different ripenesses, always gives a clear expression of the burgundian grape variety. His nose hints at plump cherries and roses, this wine is enthralling! Also to be noted that this Estate owns a slot of Romanée Saint Vivant, right next to the famous Romanée-Conti. Flamboyant, the pinot here resembles a newborn destined to be king. The wine is sublime, shining with depth and complexity. Lastly, the Corton white is one of the greatest Chardonnays of the Charlemagne climat. Let us salute its body, ample and fleshy. His ageing potential is immense, it will easily surpass fifteen years.
