Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu
The Beaujolais region has been the cradle of biodynamics viticulture, and welcomes today many winegrowers sensitive about a clean and respectful viticulture.
Many have followed suit to Jules Chauvet. Among them is Jean Claude Lapalu.
The vineyard is located just south of Mount Brouilly, and spreads across 12 hectares of limestone soil.
Always questionning the microbiotic life in the soils, he would refuse any chemical intrant in the vineyard. He left grass to grows freely between the ranks, limited the yields, and drastically reduced the use of sulphites.
This philosophy continues in the cellar, where there are no added yiests, nor sugar.
Very recently, his tests of ageings in amphora, paired with his carbonic or semi-carbonic vinifications lead his style towards more purity.
This ancestral ageing method is embodied by the Alma Mater cuvée, that seduced us with its depth, and its time-defying length.
The wines all aim at this level of purity, and shine through a delicate and plush juice.
Jean Claude really pays hommage to gamay with his wines, by trying to extract the essence itself of his old vines (about 70 years old).
