Château Du Glana

Château du Glana is a wine estate located in the Saint-Julien appellation. Its history dates back to 1870, the year the château was built. The property underwent a significant transformation starting in 1961, when it was acquired by Gabriel Meffre. Major investments have been made, notably in 1968, then in 2003 and 2015, for the renovation of the infrastructure and the vineyard. Today, Château du Glana remains a family property, managed by Gabriel Meffre's descendants, Jean-Paul Meffre and his sons, Julien and Ludovic. The Château du Glana vineyard extends over approximately 60 hectares. The soils are composed of Garonne gravel, characteristic of the Saint-Julien appellation. The grape varieties are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, representing about 65% of the planted area, complemented by Merlot, at 35%. In terms of viticulture, the estate adopts a reasoned farming approach ("lutte raisonnée"). The winemaking methods at Château du Glana are traditional and parcel-based. After a cold pre-fermentation maceration, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, made of cement and stainless steel, with a vatting period of about three weeks. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for twelve months, with a proportion of new wood adjusted according to the vintage. Before bottling, the wines are generally clarified by fining with egg whites and undergo light filtration. Château du Glana wine is regularly praised by critics for its consistent quality. Its wine offers good value for money within its appellation.
