The producer

Château de Ferrand

Château de Ferrand is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, located on the clay-limestone soils of the Saint-Hippolyte commune. The estate was founded in 1702 by Elie de Bétoulaud. In December 1977, the property was acquired by Baron Bich, founder of the BIC company. Currently, Château de Ferrand is managed by his children, notably Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët and her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët. Since 2010, significant investments have been made, including the replanting of the vineyard based on pedological and ampelographic studies, as well as the modernization of the winery infrastructure. These efforts contributed to the estate achieving Grand Cru Classé status in 2012. The Château de Ferrand vineyard spans 32 hectares of vines. The property also includes 10 hectares of woods and meadows. The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot (70%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (29%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (1%). Cultivation practices include the absence of insecticides and herbicides since 2011. The estate promotes the use of cover crops, such as green manures, between its rows. It began its conversion to organic farming in 2021.
