Julien Delrieu
Domaine Julien Delrieu is the work of a winemaker from Angers who settled in the commune of Faveraye-Mâchelles, in the heart of Anjou. Julien manages a vineyard of approximately 3.5 hectares of old vines, distributed between two-thirds white and one-third red.
Julien Delrieu started his solo venture in 2017. He has been cultivating his vines organically for many years and applies certain principles of biodynamics.
The estate's vines, some of which date back to 1955 or 1973, are mainly planted on schist soils, typical of the Anjou Noir region. The terroir is characterized by a continental climate under Atlantic influence, with soils composed of decomposed schist on the surface and shaly bedrock, sometimes mixed with gravel and clay.
Julien produces three Chenin cuvées : Le Jeau, La Joue, and Pont Bourceau, and three red cuvées: Le Jeau, Saint-Martin, and Taillemouche.
In the cellar, Julien Delrieu favors low-intervention and natural winemaking. Fermentations are carried out by indigenous yeasts, and the wines are produced without chemical additives. They are neither filtered nor fined.
The aging process takes place in tanks or barrels to enhance the expression of the grape and the terroir. The resulting wines are described as pure, vibrant, sharp, and mineral.
